Camrose Minor Ball Association needs to recruit officials into the game of baseball with the greatest need being to support the House League at 11U, 13U, 15U and 18U Levels.
Umpiring is a great way for youth, teens and adults to get involved with the game. Being a baseball umpire is a great way for youngsters to develop leadership skills and confidence. Many of our Umpires are also baseball players in CMBA and umpiring allows them to be engaged in a different aspect of the game that provides an elevated level of learning and experiences. But a lot of umpires also have no baseball background, nor is it required to pursue certification as an umpire.
CMBA encourages and assists in the development of Umpires. Our Umpires have the opportunity to work at all levels in baseball. They may choose to participate at the Community or Rep levels as well as the Provincial level. They can not only have great experiences but also get paid for their services. Our Umpires start by earning their Level I certification prior to the season. CMBA will cover the costs for these Certifications if the umpire commits for the season in some aspect to providing umpiring services for Camrose Minor Ball. Depending on the Umpire's age and experience level, Level 1 certification allows umpiring most levels at a Community and Regional level. Level 2 certification is similar to Level 1 but allows occasional Provincial Level Umpiring depending on age and experience.
Along with umpiring individual league games, Community level umpires also can have the opportunity to umpire in local tournaments. In the past, surrounding associations have relied on umpires from Camrose to umpire in their Communities.
Individuals must be a minimum of 12 years old in order to start working towards a Level 1 certification. CMBA is dedication to providing our young umpires with all the tools to succeed and gain confidence to grow as an umpire and is providing an Umpire Mentorship Program to new or inexperienced umpires. We will make every effort to supply 2 umps for every level (11U, 13U, 15U & 18U) games, however, this is sometimes not possible, in those cases a parent volunteer will be required to base ump. No Mileage paid to umpire for Community Division. If the game is rained out or cancelled, then umpire does not get paid. If the umpire has already arrived at the diamond for game time, or if the game is started before it gets cancelled, then the umpire gets paid full rate.
The amount an umpire gets paid per game depends on the division (11U, 13U, etc.), the caliber (A, AA, AAA), their level of certification and the umpire's role (home plate or bases). The Camrose Minor Baseball Association follows the umpire fees established by Baseball Alberta which varies from $45 - $60 per game along with Mileage calculations.
Umpires must attend a clinic annually to maintain certification.
CMBA has an Umpire Director who schedules and Coordinates Rec Program Umpire assignments. The Umpire Director also ensures payment to Umpires by managing the tracking process once the games are completed.
